For over a decade, New England Fly Tyers has made a continuing effort to reach out to the next generation of fly tyers/fishers through The Youth Outreach Program.
This program is designed to teach those between the ages of 10 and 17 the fundamentals of fly tying. Beginning with the history/legacy of fly fishing, students’ progress through a series of courses on entomology, fly tying basics, and rod casting.
By the end of the 7-week course, students will be able to cast with proficiency using flies that they’ve tied during their lessons.
The program is capped with celebratory BBQ. There is absolutely no cost to students or families for this course. All of the equipment is provided by the club for the students to keep.
New England Fly Tyers understands the necessity to preserve the waterways of our region, which is why we take the task of conservation very seriously.
Through our membership with the Worcester County League of Sportsmen’s Clubs, we have and continue to support legislation in the state of Massachusetts to improve conservation and access to nature for all sportsmen. Our own efforts in the past have included stocking the Quinipoxet and Swift Rivers through a partnership with MassWildlife.
We hope to increase our influence and efforts in the years to come.
